Upcoming Book Release Highlights KFC’s ‘Original Celebrity Chef’

Upcoming Book Release Highlights KFC’s ‘Original Celebrity Chef’

How could I not mention the epicness that is Colonel Sanders’s “accidentally” discovered autobiography? Those hard working marketing mavens over at KFC have not only unearthed the tome, apparently written by the Colonel in 1966, they’re publishing it, starting with a handful of Facebook posts leading up to the book’s release in early June. But it’s the title that caught my attention, of course. Colonel Harland Sanders: The Autobiography of the Original Celebrity Chef. Yep. “What’s most amazing about the book is that while it was written nearly a half-century ago, both the insightful life lessons and the delicious recipes…

Portland’s Paley Reigns Supreme in A Battle of Radishes

Portland’s Paley Reigns Supreme in A Battle of Radishes

On Sunday night, Portlanders rallied across the city as local chef Vitaly Paley took on Iron Chef Jose Garces on this week’s episode of Food Network’s Iron Chef America. As owner and head chef of Northwest favorite, Paley’s Place, Chef Paley is no stranger to the quick pace of a kitchen, though he admitted that he was a bit anxious about the taping. “I was nervous the morning before while eating breakfast, but once I got to the studio, there was just no time to be. [Food Network executives] were really good at putting you at ease – they really…

Daily Blender Exclusive: Chef Marc Forgione

Daily Blender Exclusive: Chef Marc Forgione

Marc Forgione was visibly stunned when he was announced as the winner of last season’s The Next Iron Chef. The 32-year-old, an already accomplished chef, had survived the series by defeating nine other highly-skilled, award-winning competitors, securing his spot on Food Network’s Iron Chef America. It’s admittedly still sinking in. “It still hasn’t really hit me that this is all happening,” says Forgione. “I feel very humbled when people in the restaurant ask for my autograph or I’m stopped for a picture on the street. At the end of the day, I still walk to work and make changes to…

2011 Beaver Creek Master Chef Classic: Day 1

2011 Beaver Creek Master Chef Classic: Day 1

Early Friday morning, I joined fellow Beaver Creek Master Chef Classic guests in a breathtaking hike (both literally and figuratively) for the day’s Snowshoe Excursion and Luncheon. Along the same path as its summertime equivalent, the Walk & Wine, our adventurous snowshoe group worked up a hearty appetite descending down the mountain to the beautiful Grouse Mountain Grill for the afternoon’s featured luncheon. Accompanied by Grouse Mountain’s executive chef, David Gutowski, guest chef Stephanie Izard, owner of Chicago’s Girl & the Goat, offered up a menu of goat-filled dishes. Izard, a Daily Blender favorite since her inaugural exclusive interview, presented…

Iron Chef Japan Returns To Television

Iron Chef Japan Returns To Television

I don’t know about you, but Iron Chef America just doesn’t seem to have the same oomph of the original Iron Chef. I enjoy watching the American version – who can dislike anything with Alton Brown commentary – but my heart will always be with the original. Often credited with boosting Chef Masaharu Morimoto (of Nobu and Morimoto fame) to stardom, the original Iron Chef Japan series, was produced from 1993 to 1999. Each episode, similar to its American counterpart, features a fabulously-dressed Chairman Kaga introducing battles between the Iron Chefs and notables from around the world, including Chef Bobby…
