Daily Blender Exclusive: Chef Michael Chiarello

Chef Michael Chiarello wears a bevy of hats – cook, restaurateur, vintner, businessman, food personality, father, husband – and he does it with aplomb. Over the last twenty years, the gregarious chef has managed to stake a solid claim in an already-revered mecca of food and wine – California’s Napa Valley. As owner and chef of Bottega, he’s been applauded for his dedication to locality and sustainability, with a cuisine highlighting dishes from his Italian heritage. As a vintner, Chiarello has built his own respected wine estate, cultivating a handful of highly-rated cabernets, zinfandels, and syrahs. As a businessman, he’s…

Daily Blender Exclusive: Chef Jody Adams

Chef Jody Adams proved to be one tough cookie on this season’s Top Chef Masters. Adams, in competition with top chefs like Rick Moonen, Susur Lee, and Marcus Samuelsson, survived a number of battles (including an obscure Quickfire challenge to produce dishes designed to look like characters from The Simpsons) before being eliminated during a recent Exotic Surf and Turf challenge. Her first visit to Bravo’s popular competition series, the award-winning chef was happy to be a part of the season, noting that her on-air experience was full of great personal growth. I think it’s the kind of challenge that…

Today’s Food Newsbits: Restaurateurs Make The Move to D.C., Eatery Accused of Using Whale Meat Closes

It seems like the Washington, DC dining scene has really taken off over the past few years. Local chefs garnered six finalist nominations for the 2010 James Beard Awards, and diners were interested to hear last year that New York’s popular BBQ joint, Hill Country, would be expanding to DC, a city where names like José Andrés (a Beard nominee), Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and Charlie Palmer are already leading the culinary pack. Even Bravo’s Top Chef is headed there. A recent article in the Washington Business Journal took a look at why the Capital City has become so popular with restaurateurs,…

According to Entertainment Weekly, the chosen few are: Jody Adams – Rialto Restaurant, Cambridge, MA Govind Armstrong – 8 oz Burger Bar, Los Angeles, CA Graham Elliot Bowles – Graham Elliot Restaurant, Chicago, IL Jimmy Bradley – The Red Cat, New York, NY David Burke – David…

Chef Eli Kirshtein, a former “cheftestant” on Bravo’s Top Chef, has made his way out of Atlanta and into the Big Apple as guest chef for NYC’s Solo Restaurant. The talented chef from down south will be guesting in the kosher kitchen located in the Sony Arcade in midtown Manhattan, helping to “take Kosher cuisine to a new level.” Said Joey Allaham, owner of Solo Restaurant, “We are privileged to have him in our kitchen and excited to see how he blends his already unique style with our New American Kosher fare. As a non-Kosher chef by trade, having Chef…
