Today’s Food Newsbits: Kraft Sells Frozen Pizza Division, Bayless Makes His Way to LA, Colicchio Reconfigures Craftsteak

As announced early Tuesday, Kraft Foods has initiated a sale of their frozen pizza division to Nestle SA. Seen as an opportunity to continue in their bid to buy Cadbury, the sale will net $3.7 billion for the food manufacturer, a surprising move as Kraft was the leader in frozen pizza development here in the U.S.
Mike Mitchell, a Kraft spokesman, said pizza “was not a business we were actually looking to sell.” Nestle approached the company during 2009’s first quarter, he said, months before Kraft announced its Cadbury bid.

Today’s Food Newsbits: Cipriani Sued For Labor Violations, Bayless Eateries Issued Meat Violation, A Look At Tavern’s Tumble

Following in a long list of notable restaurants sued for labor violations, the famed Cipriani is the latest to become ensnared. A lawsuit filed Monday on behalf of past and current servers and bartenders alleges that the Cipriani restaurant group withheld tips intended for workers and shaved time from paychecks. According to lawyers representing the workers, the lawsuit is intended to recover “misappropriated service charges, misappropriated gratuities, and unpaid minimum wages.”

Today’s Food Newsbits: Mr. Chow Goes To Miami, Bayless Brings Home His Top Chef Creations

Earlier this month, Mr. Chow opened its newest location in Miami, Florida, in the heart of the South Beach district. The new space, centrally located in the W South Beach features seating for 450 guests, and includes an indoor dining space as well as a patio with cabanas. The interior space, designed by Michael Chow, features a unique 125 foot gold-leaf and Swarovski crystal chandelier as well as animations by artist, Yi Zhou, projected on the walls outside. We must be preoccupied with food.
Earlier this week the Bravo Network announced plans for Top Chef: Masters, a spin off to its successful food competition, where by “some of the brightest stars in the world of food, award-winning, widely-renowned Chefs, will compete against each other in a series of weekly challenges.”

Also this week, the Wall Street Journal sized up the two vying presidential candidates by reviewing their favorite eateries.  It was revealed that both men have an affinity for Tex-Mex and pizza.  And while McCain is more of “a regular-guy diner-out, happy to follow …
